Work may begin within three months

The proponents of the waste-to-energy plant at Brahmapuram hope to begin the work of the new plant within three months of obtaining all the statutory clearances.

The company is also in the process of obtaining the environment impact assessment (EIA) of the project, said Amit Viswanathan, a company official, at a workshop on waste management organised by the World Malayali Council and the YMCA.

The plant would require at least 300 tonnes of waste for producing power at a feasible scale. It would take at least 18 months for the plant to start generating power, he said.

Mayor Soumini Jain inaugurated the workshop. P.T. Thomas, MLA, presided over the meeting.
