Train services suspended again in Kashmir

SRINAGAR : Train services have been suspended again for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, where fresh clashes erupted after the killing of three militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in an encounter with security forces in Sopore yesterday.
”We have suspended all train runs in the Kashmir valley for security reasons,” a senior railway official said today.
He said train service on Badgam-Srinagar in the central Kashmir to Anantnag-Qazigund in south to Banihal in Jammu region was suspended again today.
Similarly,  trains will not chug on Badgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north for the second day today for security reasons.
”We have taken the decision to suspend train service in the Kashmir valley after receiving an advisory from the administration and police for security reasons,” he said.
Railway property has suffered massive damage in the past during protests in the valley, where the train services remained suspended for about six months during summer unrest last year.
However, people shuttling daily between north to south Kashmir via Srinagar or vice versa prefer train service which is being considered most dependable, cheap and safe mode of transport in the Kashmir valley, where frequent traffic jam is a daily routine. (AGENCIES)
