Board waiting for SC ruling on over 800 acres of land

The Telangana government has promised resumption of alienated Wakf land and complete cooperation in the legal fight for it.

The confirmation came in a reply filed by the State in the Supreme Court during the last hearing of the case.

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had pledged support to the Board at the commencement of his term in office.

The main concern has been on the status of the land attached to Dargah Hazrat Hussain Shah Vali where several IT companies had come up.

However, 800 acres of land was left vacant with no construction activity coming up in the area. It is this land that is likely to come back to the board provided it wins the case in the Apex Court.

Disputed area

A number of residential buildings came up in the land which is claimed to have been auctioned off by the government of former undivided Andhra Pradesh to Lanco Hills Technology Park Pvt Ltd.

According to land records, a total of 1,654 acres are in dispute in the area.

The Supreme Court in 2013 had ruled that land registration by private parties in the area will be subject to final verdict of the court.

Waqf Board had maintained that ‘Manikonda Jagir’ was given to the Dargah by the VII Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan in the 1920s.

In the recent past two High Court judgements had referred to it as disputed land.

For community

Once retrieved, the land could be utilised for construction of schools and other welfare activities for the community.

There is a possibility that the land could be leased out as well. For this there will have to be fresh orders.

If leased out, revenue of the Wakf Board will increase by over 400%.

According to sources, the legal dispute between the State, private parties and the Wakf Board is expected to come to a logical conclusion this year, after long drawn trials which have lasted for close to a decade.
