Congress has trained its guns at Prime Minister Narendra Modi holding the “ideology of hatred” propagated by him responsible for the “murderous attack” on Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat on Friday.
Hitting out at Modi, Rahul said the attack on him displayed the way BJP, RSS and the Prime Minister conducted their politics.
“A BJP worker flung a big stone in my direction. It hit my PSO (Personal Security Officer). It is the Modi, BJP and RSS way of doing politics. Why more can I say,” Rahul told reporters at Parliament on Saturday after casting his vote in the vice presidential election.
“Why would they condemn it when they are behind it,” Rahul retorted when pointed out that the prime minister had not condemned the attack on him.
Congress leaders said the attack was a “pre-planned conspiracy” by “BJP workers” who had positioned themselves near a turn on the road where the vehicles slow down.
“It was a murderous attack by the BJP and the RSS,” Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad said displaying the cement boulder that was flung at the car in which Rahul was travelling.
“This stone could kill a human. What was the police doing... Let me say that Rahul Gandhi and Congress party won't be intimidated by such tactics,” he said.
Youth Congress workers staged protests on late Friday evening outside BJP headquarters here and more sit-ins were planned at the Gujarat Bhawan on Saturday.
The Congress said the attack on Rahul was a manifestation of the 'Godse culture' of violence and revenge that has been carried forward by 'Modi bhakts'.
“They must understand that neither 'Nathuram Godse’s cult' nor 'Modi Bhakts' can suppress the 'Gandhian Way' by their politics of intimidation, coercion and thuggery,” Randeep Singh Surjewala, the chief AICC spokesperson said.
