Cops unearth fake medicines factory in Bengal

IANS  |  Kolkata

Two persons were arrested for allegedly being involved in manufacturing fake medicines in a factory at Rishra in West Bengal's Hooghly district, police said on Saturday.

"Acting on a tip-off, we have found a factory where fake medicines were manufactured. The unit was apparently a factory manufacturing vermillion and alta (Red liquid dye which women apply on their hands and feet during festivals and weddings)," the police said.

Mostly, over-the-counter medicines which one can buy without a prescription were manufactured at the unit, the official said.

"In apprehension of fake medicines being distributed to neighbouring districts, we have informed the competent authority (State Drug Control Authority) so that they can take the matter forward," the official said.
