White Paper on fiscal dealings sought

CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna on Saturday said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s regime was pushing the State into a debt trap as he was borrowing huge sums of money as loans. In the last four months, the government borrowed ₹10,000 crore.

‘No investments’

Addressing the media here, Mr. Ramakrishna said, with the much-promised investments from aboard were not forthcoming, the government was busy with borrowings.

“We demand a White Paper on all the financial dealings in the last three years,” he said.

Except in the Krishna and Godavari deltas, farmers were unable to carry out agricultural operations owing to lack of irrigation water.

“The ponds are empty in North Andhra and the uplands are yet to witness brisk sowing activity,” he said.

Only 26% of the farmers took to groundnut farming in Anantapur and even they were facing hardship owing to shortage of water. “The fate of cotton farmers is similar.”

State-level meet

He said there would be a State-level meeting on August 7 in Anantapur on the farmers’ issues. “Similarly, on August 8 and 9, the party leaders will visit the drought-hit areas in Anantapur and hand over a report to the government.”

Jagan faulted

Mr. Ramakrishna found fault with the language used by YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Such words would only encourage violence, he added.
