Residents object to construction; refuse to relocate

The impasse over land acquisition in Trilokpuri to complete the Majlis Park – Shiv Vihar stretch of the Pink Line continues with locals unwilling to vacate their houses.

With trial runs starting in two sections and construction work in full swing on either side of the Nizamuddin-IP Extenstion section which has been affected due to the land dispute, officials of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said no deadline could be set for the stretch. For now, operations on the rest of the Pink Line (total 38 stations with several interchanging points) will begin sometime between December 2017 and March 2018.

364 affected households

In Trilokpuri, 108 plots of Block-15 have a total of 364 affected households.

“The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board has allotted an 11,138 sq m land to DMRC for the relocation of the affected persons. However, due to resistance from the locals, the work cannot be started,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

Residents of Block-15 had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court in February opposing the construction and refusing to be relocated to a different area. Ruling in favour of DMRC, the court had granted it permission to undertake construction on three sites in front of blocks 15,16, 17 and 18.
