Demands setting up of Government medical college in Karimnagar

TPCC vice president and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar launched his fast on Saturday demanding that the state government fulfill its promise of sanctioning a government medical college in Karimnagar town.

Following the police denying him permission to stage his fast at Indira Chowk in the heart of the town, Mr. Prabhakar chose to go on a fast at his residence. He erected a dais in front of his home and sat on a fast with the support of party activists.

It may be recalled that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao had announced sanction of government medical college in Karimnagar town during his maiden visit to the town, after attaining power, on August 5, 2014.

Express solidarity

Congress floor leader in the assembly K. Jana Reddy, deputy leader T. Jeevan Reddy, DCC president K. Mruthyunjayam and other leaders participated and extended solidarity to the fast.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Jana Reddy demanded that the government fulfil its promise of sanctioning the government medical college made three years ago. Launching a scathing attack against the TRS government for its alleged poor governance, Mr. Jana Reddy flayed the Chief Minister for neglecting the Karimnagar district, which was in the forefront of the Telangana statehood movement. He ridiculed the Chief Minister for sanctioning the medical college in Siddipet instead of Karimnagar town. Several NGOs, opposition parties have extended solidarity to the hunger strike by visiting the camp.
