A man was allegedly beaten to death for dumping of garbage at Ravulammapalem in Sabbavaram mandal under Anakapalle Rural Police station limits in the district late on Thursday night.
Four members of a family allegedly beat their neighbour to death over a petty issue of dumping garbage in an open area that is shared by both the families.
The deceased was identified as L. Srinivasa Rao (40), driver of earth moving equipment.
According to Anakapalle (Rural) Inspector Ramachandra Rao, family of Srinivasa Rao and family of L. Appalanaidu, daily-wage labour by profession, are neighbours and they share an open space before their houses.
As per the initial information, there are petty issues between the families over drainage, use of the open space, dumping of wastes and a few more. Both the families in the past indulged in quarrels, with each blaming the other for dumping solid waste that blocked the drainage. But on Thursday night it took a bizarre turn.
According to the inspector, on Thursday both the families had a quarrel over dumping of garbage and at around 10.30 p.m, Appala Naidu, his wife Varalakshmi, son Apparao and daughter-in-law Chinnamulu, entered the house of Srinivasa Rao and allegedly beat him severely, striking at his face and testicles and even tried to strangulate him.
At the time of the incident, the deceased’s wife was not at home as she is working in an MNC apparel company in Atchutapuram. “Only Srinivasa Rao’s daughter was present.
The frightened daughter rushed to neighbouring houses and alerted the locals who came and shifted Srinivasa Rao to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead,” said Mr. Ramachandra Rao.
All the four members of the accused family are reportedly in police custody and a case has been registered.
The body was sent to government hospital in Anakapalle for post-mortem. Investigation is on.
