DCC vice president attacked at Irikkur allegedly by CPI(M) workers

The Congress has condemned the attack on District Congress Committee (DCC) vice president Muhammad Blathur near Irikkur here on Thursday night by alleged CPI(M) workers.

In a statement here on Friday, DCC president Satheeshan Pacheni said the attack showed that the CPI(M) workers, under arrogance of power in the State, continued to act like terrorists.

He said the Congress leaders who were leading an election campaign at Mattannur municipality were being selectively targeted by the CPI(M). Mr. Blathur had been attacked with the intention to harm his life, he added.

Mr. Blathur was attacked at 9.30 p.m. on Thursday following a march he led at Kallyat in Irikkur in protest against the attack on a Congress local leader identified as Dineshan. His car was damaged in the attack.

Dineshan was injured in the attack over a local dispute.

The police said a CPI(M) worker identified as Sibin was also injured in the clashes.
