A 20-year-old domestic help who was allegedly raped multiple times by her employer has been rescued by the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW).
The woman was rescued from Patel Nagar on Saturday in a joint operation by the DCW, the Delhi Police and NGO Shakti Vahini.
The Commission said the victim hails from West Bengal and was brought to Delhi two years back by a relative. She worked as a domestic help in other places before she was employed at the Patel Nagar house three months back.
FIR registered
An FIR was filed on Wednesday due to unavailability of a translator earlier. The accused has been booked under Section 376 (rape) and other relevant sections of the IPC, the DCW said.
In her statement, the woman said she was sexually assaulted by her employer on multiple occasions in the absence of other family members. She added that she was not allowed to leave the house in the three months that she was there.
Meanwhile, DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal has requested the Resident Commissioners of all States to submit a list of empanelled translators to tackle such cases in future. “The victim does not speak Hindi and there was no translator available on the day she was rescued. This led to a delay in filing of the FIR. I request the Resident Commissioners of all States to submit a list of translators to prevent delays in such cases” said Ms. Maliwal.
