Labourer dies after getting entangled in conveyor belt at CSEB

A labourer today died after getting entangled in the conveyor belt in a state-run power plant in Chhattisgarh's Korba district, police said.

The incident took place this morning when the victim identified as Nilesh Pataskar (40) was working in the conveyor belt section at State Electricity Board (CSEB) Korba East power plant located in Balco police station area, a local police official said.


As per preliminary probe, when Pataskar, a contractual worker, was carrying out cleaning work his hand got stuck in the conveyor belt which was operational leaving him seriously injured, he said.

He was immediately rushed to a local hospital by the plant management where he succumbed to his injuries during the treatment.

A case has been registered in this connection, the official said, adding, further investigation was on.

Tension prevailed in the area after the incident as labourers staged protest in front of the plant demanding action against those guilty for the mishap.

The agitating workers also sought compensation to the tune of Rs 20 lakh to family of the deceased who was resident of Godhi village in the same region.

However, district administration and police immediately reached there and pacified the protestors.

Meanwhile, tehsildar Tularam Bharadwaj announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the victim's kin.

Besides, assistance will also be given to the deceased's family under different government schemes as per the rules, the tehsildar said.
