A cow activist, Sant Gopal Das Muni, and his followers on Thursday staged a protest outside the Tilyar Tourist Complex here, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of not keeping its poll promise on conservation sanctuaries for bovines in the State.
Mr. Das and 10 others were later arrested on charges of causing public nuisance, said Rohtak SP Pankaj Nain.
The drama unfolded around 5 p.m. when the activist along with a handful of his followers reached the complex carrying a dead bull and dumped the carcass outside its entrance.
BJP national president Amit Shah has been camping at the complex as part of his three-day visit to the city to review the performance of the Khattar government.
Slogans raised
Even before the police could swing into action, the protesters started raising slogans in support of cow conservation and demanded that land for grazing be made available in villages so that the animals were not killed in road accidents.
Mr. Das has been fasting for the last 65 days and touring across the State to secure pasture land and conservation sanctuaries for cows.
‘Unkept promise’
He alleged that BJP had been elected to power by evoking the sentiments of cows and now it could not run away from its poll promise. Earlier, a question was put to Mr. Shah during a press conference on the issue, but he said he was not well-versed with the matter. Meanwhile, Mr. Nain said the carcass of the bull had been sent for autopsy.
