Defence Minister Arun Jaitley told the Lok Sabha on Friday that there have been increased attempts by Pakistan to ensure infiltration across the Line of Control (LoC) in 2017 and that 285 such attempts have been recorded till August 1.
He added that there have also been casualties due to attempts by the other side to infiltrate, due to which the “the record is high.”
The Minister was replying to a question from CPI (M) member Mohammad Salim, on the number of incursion attempts made in the last one year and the number of soldiers of the Army and paramilitary forces and civilians killed or injured as a result.
Mr. Jaitley also said while the Army guards the LoC and a few parts of the International Border, the remaining border areas are guarded by the Border Security Force. He added that in 2017, the ceasefire violations in areas guarded by the Army were 228 and those in the areas controlled by the BSF were 221.
