Hockey enthusiasts in the city will have something to look forward to when the Bengaluru Super Hockey League begins at the Hockey Stadium here from August 10.

A total of 12 teams will vie for top honours in the 17-day tournament, which will conclude on August 26.

The league, last held in 2012 as the Karnataka State Hockey Association (KSHA) Super Division Hockey League Championship, was scrapped due to a crisis in the Hockey India (HI).

However, the event has found its way back into the HI calender after a gap of four years. KSHA secretary K Krishnamurthy was expectedly delighted with the development. “We are very happy about it,” he said during a press interaction on Friday.

“We’ve been through trauma for four-five years because of the national body crisis. Luckily for us, now it is sorted. We are part of the national hockey body Hockey India and they’ve given us the permission,” Krishnamurthy added.

The teams will be divided into two pools of six each. The group phase will be followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and the final.

The total prize money for the event is Rs 10 lakh.

Teams: Pool A: Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC), South Central Railways (SCR), Army XI Green, Mahaveer Jain Sports Academy, Bangalore, Indian Airforce (IAF).

Pool B: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Army XI Red, Punjab National Bank (PNB), All India Customs, Sports Authority of India (SAI), Fortis Sports.
