Even as Punjab truckers have intensified their agitation to demand a rollback of ban on truck unions, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Friday ruled out revoking his government's decision.
During a discussion on Friday with stakeholders on the new draft industrial policy, the Chief Minister assured that all concerns of the Punjab industry would be taken into account before finalising the new policy.
Transporters are on a warpath after the state's Congress government on July 5 announced the decision to abolish truck unions to end the mafia's control on the sector.
Truckers have kept nearly 93,000 trucks off the roads from July 9 and also set afire a truck in Nakodar town this week.
There are 134 truck unions in Punjab with over 93,000 trucks, including 70,000 that have been bought by raising loans from banks and others. Nearly 16 lakh people are associated with Punjab's transport sector.
"The move is aimed at destroying the mafia of goods transporters who had cartelised the business over the past several years, obstructing the free and fair movement of goods, thereby impacting industrial development of Punjab," the government said earlier.
