45 women TTEs will get blue blazers to maintain parity with male counterparts

Mumbai: This Independence Day, the 45 women train ticket examiners (TTEs) working in the Western Railway’s (WR) long-distance trains will sport a new uniform.

The new blue blazers with the WR logo are almost ready, and are getting final touches to make them attractive.

According to officials, WR has ordered 50 blazers for the women TTEs to maintain uniformity between male and female ticket checking staff. “The material we have chosen is cotton, and the blue colour gives the blazers a soothing look. We plan to introduce the new uniform from Independence Day,” said a senior WR official.

At present, women TTEs wear cream and maroon salwar kameez. There are 110 women TTEs, out of which 45 work in long-distance trains (the Intercity Express and Shatabdi Express). WR is also planning to assign women TTEs in the Tejas Express which is supposed to start between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The long-distance TTEs will have to wear the blazer over the existing uniform, whenever they are on the duty.

Western Railway has spent ₹2 lakh for the blazers. Aarti Singh Parihar, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Western Railway, said, “We will soon get the new blazers and hand them over to the TTEs.”
