Officials grill Minister for over an hour

Officials of the Income Tax Department on Thursday grilled Minister Vijaya Baskar for more than an hour over operations relating to the quarry owned by him and his family members.

On Tuesday, the State registration department froze 100 acres of land and a stone quarry belonging to the Minister and his family members at his native village in Pudukkottai district. It also emerged in the investigation that the Minister’s cook Subbiah was handling the mining business. The I-T department is also probing the Minister’s alleged links with sand mining baron Sekhar Reddy.

“We had summoned the minister earlier. He could not appear due to preoccupation and was present for investigation today. We recorded the minister’s statement over the seized documents. Investigations will continue,” said an Income Tax official.

Later, Mr. Vijaya Baskar told reporters that he extended full co-operation and answered all the queries and expressed confidence he will come clean from the current controversies surrounding him.
