TRS MP, MLAs meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Member of Parliament K. Kavitha on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek establishment of National Turmeric Board and introduction of minimum support price (MSP) for turmeric crop.

She was accompanied by five TRS MLAs including those from Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Armoor where turmeric was extensively grown. The visitors took selfie pictures with the Prime Minister.

In her letter handed over to Mr. Modi, Ms. Kavitha recalled that she had met the former with the demands twice in the last two years.

The National Turmeric Board had become imperative because the Spices Board which looked after the affairs of turmeric in India could not devote time and put effort on developing the crop as it administered 54 other spices.

There was a dire need to introduce Minimum Support Price for turmeric crop to alleviate the distress of farmers. A ban on import of turmeric will help farmers get a better price for the produce, the letter added.

Two days ago, Ms. Kavitha called on Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu to seek the extension Karimnagar - Tirupati Express train up to Jagtial. She also wanted extension of Mumbai - Nizamabad Lokmanya Express up to Karimnagar.

It will help passengers from Jagtial, Korutla and Metpally who had close contacts with Mumbai.
