The newly-appointed Country Representative for UNICEF Dr. Yasmin Haque appreciated the efforts of the Telangana government and re-affirmed the agency’s continued support for the next five years, in tune with UNICEF’s agreement with Government of India.
Child protection Systems
On Wednesday, accompanied by her colleagues, she called on the Chief Secretary S.P. Singh and underscored the need for the State to bring child-related programmes under one umbrella to effectively implement child protection systems.
Missions accomplished
Mr. Singh outlined the various, innovative programmes in Telangana including Mission Bhagiratha, Mission Kakatiya, KCR Kit, Single Women Pension, Modernisation of Government Hospitals and many more. These programmes, he said would improve the status of women and children in the State.
The Chief Secretary also thanked UNICEF for their support to Telangana in assessing impact of Mission Bhagiratha on Children and Women.
The desired objectives of supplying piped clean water to every household could be met with their help. Dr. Yasmin also stated that there was a need to integrate water supply with sanitation with other schemes.
Others present at the meeting included Meital Rusdia, WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Specialist Salathiel Nalli and Social Policy Specialist Deepak Dey.
Engineer-in-Chief, Mission Bhagiratha, Surender Reddy also attended, according to a press release.
