DGCA expresses concern over grounded IndiGo, GoAir aircraft

Civil aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday expressed concern over grounding of some A320neo aircraft of IndiGo and GoAir due to engine-related issues.

The development came after a meeting was held here between the officials and executives from engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney (P&W), Airbus, IndiGo and GoAir.

"A meeting with P&W, Airbus and airline representatives was held today (Thursday) to discuss progress made by P&W to fix the issues of No.3 bearing failure and combustion chamber failure in PW1100 engine leading to grounding of seven A320neo of IndiGo and two of GoAir," a senior official said.

According to the official, P&W informed that the modification done on "No.3 bearing" from April 2017 onwards had addressed the problem to some extent.

It also said that the new set of improved combustion chambers would be available post October 2017.

The official added that P&W would expedite the supply of engines by increasing the "shop-level delivery of engines undergoing modification".
