Senior doctors called for greater patient awareness to avoid attacks on doctors at government hospitals.

The veteran healthcare experts said that hospitals should enhance security to ensure a safe environment with security cameras, alarm systems and security personnel. Patient counselling is also essential said, Telangana Doctors Forum’s Chairman A. Gopal Kishan. Dr. Kishan also suggested that an independent ombudsman should be appointed at every hospital to look into complaints of negligence.

The forum’s members also suggested that the government should consider paying insurance companies for professional indemnity against negligence by staff or institutional failure.

Lauding OGH junior doctors for their decision to call off their strike following an alleged attack on doctors on Sunday, the forum’s members suggested that the government must act fast.
