Watch a film capturing behind-the-scene activities before a play is staged

A documentary film Before the Third Bell by Basav Biradar — filmmaker and a theatre personality, will be screened at Shoonya. Organised by Basav and Shoonya, the film screening will be followed by a panel discussion.

Basav explains why he chose Before the third bell as the name for the film, “Before every theatre performance, there are three bells. And the play begins only after the third bell. As the film talks about the activities that happen before the third bell, I felt the name is apt. The idea of the film was to show the creative process of a theatre production – like how the stage set is designed or how the team goes about designing the lights, costumes or how a script is developed. This kind of documentation has not been done when it comes to modern theatre and that is the intent with which this film is made. Since Abhishek Majumdar is one of the leading theatre persons in India, I felt it apt to chronicle his creative process.” Basav also adds that the film speaks to everyone and shows the viewer the kind of work and passion that goes into making a play. He has produced this 63-minute film and adds, “A few friends were willing to help with free editing and recording and so on. So, the cost went only towards the equipment that we hired. The film is born out of the passion of people who believe in theatre and performing arts.”

The film will be screened at Shoonya, on August 6 at 7 pm. It is open to all. Call 77608 32226 for details.
