Police have busted a gang of vehicle lifters, arresting two of its members, and recovered six stolen motorcycles in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district.

One Tanveer Ahmed of Behroth village filed a written complaint at Police Station Budhal, stating that his motorcycle was stolen on July 27, a police officer said.

Police registered a case and started investigation and picked up some suspects, he said.

During interrogation, one suspect Ashiq Ali confessed that the gang stole motorcycles and sold them.

He also disclosed that he has links with other thieves in Rajouri and they worked together to lift bikes, he said.

All of them used to break open the locks of the parked motorcycles and ride away and sell them from Rajouri to Shopian and vice versa, he said.

After identification of the accused Ali, six bikes have been recovered during investigation, the officer said, adding that the cost of the recovered motorcycles is around Rs 5 lakh.

Another accused of Budhal has also been arrested in the case, he said.

Investigation in the case is in progress and further recoveries of bikes cannot be ruled out, he said.
