The first institute of national repute after the State formation—Telangana State Institute of Hotel Management (TSIHM)—was inaugurated by Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao in Sangareddy district on Thursday.
The institute was established by the erstwhile government of Andhra Pradesh and the Government of India under a society registered in Medak after the project was conceived by the then Tourism Minister J. Geeta Reddy.
Earlier named the State Institute of Hotel Management, it began functioning in 2011 offering only a six-month craft course.
Renamed the Telangana State Institute of Hotel Management after the State formation and affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management, New Delhi, it has been offering three-year BSc in Hotel Management, one-and-a-half-year course in cookery and bakery and six-month craft course in food and beverages service.
The construction of the building was completed last year and the institute was shifted to the new premises in the beginning of this year.
Entrance exam
Admission into the three-year degree course would be through an all India entrance examination and for the craft course, the test would be held in Medak. At present, the institute have only 25 students and of them, 15 are pursuing BSc course.
“Those who want admission into the six-month craft course should contact the office either in June/ July or December as the admission will be held twice a year,” said S. Larry Bhasker, principal, TSIHM.
