Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today said that the government is keen on linking its Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) with CCTV network of private housing societies to improve surveillance.
Fadnavis was responding to a question raised by MLAs regarding recent murders in Andheri and Dombivali.
"The patrolling system of police has evolved and technology based surveillance has become more effective. The areas which were crime prone some years back have now reported decline in crime rate, because we installed CCTV cameras and used the network effectively," the chief minister informed the House.
Besides this, the police officials have dedicated duty hours and they are expected to be present on some spots as a part of physical patrolling, he said.
While responding to a question raised on firearms and misuse of license permits, Fadnavis said there were some cases where firearms were obtained by submitting false documents and they were later misused.
"We have changed the system and improved the document processing system to filter unwanted license applications. It is also necessary to have a report from intelligence bureau that applicant is having some threat to his life," the chief minister said.
"The home department has also initiated digitisation of crime record as well as developing analytics of the previous crime incidents. A finger print database is also being digitised because criminals can change their names to avoid legal action against them. This will work as a major backbone for the home department," Fadnavis said.
