Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao, who had a meeting with health department officials on Tuesday on fever cases, said that there was no need to panic since the administration was closely monitoring the situation on a daily basis.
“Since rainy season has begun, there might be a slight increase in fever cases. However, the numbers are not abnormal,” he said.
Acknowledging that dengue cases were getting reported in the district, he, however, said that there were no deaths due to dengue.
Pointing out that some fever cases were referred to the Government Rajaji Hospital in a critical stage by private hospitals, Mr. Rao said that he had ordered the formation of an expert panel of doctors to review the treatment protocol followed in private hospitals, particularly those in smaller towns.
“If any lapses in procedures or medical negligence are found, we will take stringent action,” he said.
Similarly, he said that Village Health Nurses would be roped in to pro-actively identify fever cases in villages so that there were no delays by the families in getting medical attention.
“Apart from this, our routine prevention, control and monitoring activities at all levels would continue. Mooduvarpatti and nearby villages will be under special focus until fever cases are brought down,” he said.
