Bengal flood toll 39; lightning claims 34 lives in Odisha

Rail traffic hit due to heavy rains in Gujarat and Rajasthan; showers in Delhi lead to a dip in temperature

Even as the West Bengal government claimed that the flood situation has improved, the death toll has risen to 39 so far in the State.

Disaster Management Minister Javed khan said 39 people were killed in flood-like situation and about 27 lakh affected. He said 400 relief camps were running in the State.

The situation is still grim in Howrah, Hoghly and Paschim Medinipur.

Lightning deaths

In Odisha, deaths caused by lightning have risen to 34, with another 16 persons have fallen victim on Monday. As many as 18 persons were killed in lightning on Sunday.

Rail traffic remained affected due to heavy rain in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Six trains were cancelled.

Rains drenched Delhi leading to a dip in the maximum temperature. Heavy rainfall occurred at isolated areas in Jaipur and Udaipur in Rajasthan. Incessant rains led to multiple landslips in Jammu and Kashmir’s Mehar and Seeri.
