Gynaecology residents’ meet concludes

A two-day gynaecology residents’ meet concluded at Kasturba Medical College (KMC) here on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by Manipal University, 46 postgraduate residents presented their research and 12 guest speakers spoke on the different aspects of obstetrics and gynaecology.

Muralidhar V. Pai, head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, KMC, and chairman of the meet organising committee, said this year, postgraduates from other colleges in the State too had participated. till last year, the meet was open only to students of Manipal.

Sreedevi S.N., head of the Department of OBG, Pushpagiri Medical College, Thiruvalla, Kerala, delivered the Dr. A. Padma Rao Endowment Oration. The oration plaque and citation were awarded by the chief guest, Pragna Rao, dean designate, KMC, and A. Krishna Rao.

Dr. Pragna Rao spoke on the importance of reducing maternal and perinatal mortality as well as on the contributions of Dr. Padma Rao in bringing the rates down to international standards in Udupi district through RMCH centres. She stressed the need for quality research and presentations on communication skills among future residents.

M. Dayananda, medical superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, distributed prizes to winners of paper and poster competitions. Pratap Kumar and Subha Gita, gynaecologists, also spoke on Padma Rao. Shripad Hebbar proposed the vote of thanks.
