Nearly 10 students studying Class VIII and IX from Puducherry were honoured with ‘Naalaya Kalam Award 2017’ in Rameswaram during the inaugural function of Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s memorial. Of the 10 students, seven are from government school.
The Pondicherry Science Forum selected the award winners based on their science competitions they have attended, prizes they have won and certificates received in the field of science.
Arun Nagalaingam, Secretary, Pondicherry Science Forum, said that the Kancheepuram Science Centre has instituted this award for the students who excel in science.
“Last year only three students won the award. This year, nearly 10 students have received and most of them are from the government schools in Puducherry,” he said.

Sivakumaran, Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School; S. Balaji, Thamizh Thendral Thiru. Vi.Ka Government High School; S. Karthik, Government High School, Ariyankuppam; K. Jeeveshwaran, VOC Government Higher Secondary School and I. Magesh kumar, Thillaiyaadi Vallaiammai Government High School, Kadirkamam.
