A FICCI committee has decided to appoint renowned economist and journalist Dr. Sanjaya Baru as the business body's next secretary general.

Dr. Baru will take over from Dr. A Didar Singh who will complete five years as secretary general of FICCI. Dr. Singh had earlier superannuated as secretary to the government.

With Dr. Singh's personal efforts, FICCI has shaped up extremely well during the last five years and has been extremely resilient in dealing with domestic and global challenges as well as supporting Indian industry in capitalizing on new emerging opportunities," Mr. Patel added.
Patel further informed that, "FICCI recognizes the tremendous contribution of Dr. Singh and would continue to benefit from his vast experience as he would be now be holding the position of the Principal Advisor to FICCI President from September 1.
