Jana Sena Party (JSP) president Pawan Kalyan on Monday announced his entry into active politics in October by which time organisation-building is expected to be completed, and said he would devote most of his time to politics.
Whether he undertakes a padayatra or reaches out to people in other forms depends on the situation, but he would certainly take up issues in a manner that does not create law and order problems, he said, while making his point that not all agitations should be looked from ‘that (law and order) angle.’
Addressing media persons after holding deliberations with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Uddhanam nephropathy at the Secretariat on Monday, Mr. Kalyan said the party was in the process of selecting activists who can understand party ideology and are capable of highlighting people’s problems in a manner that makes the government discharge its responsibilities properly.
Focus on party-building
“The focus at the moment is on building the party. It is likely to be over by September/October, after which I will take the plunge into active politics,” he stated and asserted that he was against divide-and-rule politics which had been unfortunately continuing for several decades.
Mr. Kalyan said Mudragada Padmanabham’s Padayatra should be permitted if it was genuine and that the government might have its reasons to be cautious about it as there was a precedent of violence.
He wondered why there was a break in the agitation for recognition of Kapus as the Backward Classes (BC) during the Congress regime and sought to know why BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah objected it after keeping quiet when the TDP included the community’s demand in its election manifesto.
“It is a sensitive matter. There should be a meaningful debate on it for resolving it peacefully,” he said.
The JSP chief said he was a friend of both the TDP and BJP, but he would not mind fighting against them if the purpose of his support to them fails to safeguard the public interest.
