Mumbai: The Bombay University and College Teachers’ Union and five city college professors have filed a petition in the Bombay High Court alleging by the University of Mumbai (MU) in providing infrastructure for assessment of papers using the new online screen marking system (OSM).
The petitioners have said they are aggrieved by the improper implementation of OSM by MU, its Registrar and the Director of Board of Examinations and Evaluations for the assessment of answer scripts for last year’s degree courses in Arts, Commerce, Science, Computer Management and Law. The are also aggrieved that the Board of Information Technology is yet to be set up by the university, as mandated by the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016.
They said the university, the registrar and the director have failed to provide intranet and arrange for teachers to assess papers at the Examination Bhavan on Kalina Campus. Instead, the petition said, professors are forced use their own computers for OSM system. They said computers with a minimum 100 mbps download speed, specifically meant for assessment of papers under the OSM System, haven’t been provided.
They urged the court to direct the university to make assessment of answer scripts available for the next semester under the OSM system, and provide 2,000 computers on Kalina campus connected to a server by intranet.
The matter is to be heard on August 3 before a Division Bench comprising Justices B.R. Gavai and Riyaz Chagla.
