The Central Government will conduct ‘Swachh Survekshan-2018’ in 4,041 cities and towns in the country, including Greater Hyderabad, to assess the performance of urban local bodies in implementation of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban’.
Unlike similar surveys undertaken earlier, this time, the citizens’ feedback will be given more weightage, a press release from GHMC informed on Monday.
As part of changed guidelines of the survey, all the indicators designed for the component ‘Municipal Documentation’ after verification at urban local body level will also be validated independently with an element of negative marking, in case there is a mismatch between what was claimed and the on-field observation.
A new component ‘Innovation and Best Practices’ too has been added to encourage cities showcase their best intervention, the release said. The cities will be evaluated against a total 71 indicators, 44 incorporated in municipal documentation, 18 in direct observation and nine in citizens’ feedback. However, when it comes to evaluation, citizens’ feedback takes priority with 1600 marks allotted to it out of 4,000. Direct observation is allotted 1000 and municipal documentation, 1,400.
Focus will be laid on segregation of waste at source, collection and transportation, centralised or decentralised processing of solid and liquid waste, access to cleanest public or community toilets, sustainable interventions and engagement with citizens, the note said.
GHMC has claimed that it had already fulfilled all the criteria including waste segregation and eradication of mosquito menace.
