Press Trust of India  |  Hyderabad

A South African national was taken into custody at the international airport here today by the Special Task Force of Excise department for allegedly carrying cocaine.

"The South African, identified as Alex Victor, aged about 40, was taken into custody with cocaine (commercial quantity), after he came out of the airport after landing from Mumbai," a senior Excise Official said tonight.

The incident came against the backdrop of Excise department last month busting a high-profile racket selling drugs such as lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA).

The department-constituted SIT is currently probing that case, in which it has arrested 20 persons.

The SIT has so far questioned 12 persons connected to the Telugu in connection with the expose.
