Reprieve relates to one of two cases

The Madras High Court Bench here on Monday granted bail to retired history professor T. Jeyaraman, 63, of Mayiladuthurai in Nagapattinam district, in one of the two criminal cases registered against him and a few others in connection with the protests in Kadiramangalam.

Justice V. Bharathidasan granted the reprieve in the second case registered against Mr. Jeyaraman under Sections 147 (rioting), 294b (uttering obscene words), 341 (wrongful restraint), 353 (using criminal force to deter public servant from discharging duties) and 506 part I (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

Justice A.M. Basheer Ahamed had on July 19 reserved his orders on the other bail application filed by Mr. Jeyaraman in connection with the first case, registered under Sections 148 (rioting with deadly weapons), 324 (causing hurt voluntarily with dangerous weapons), 336 (endangering personal safety of others), 436 (committing mischief with fire) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC.
