Lieutenant General Cherish Mathson, alumnus of the Sainik School, Kazhakuttam, will take over as the Commander of the South Western Army on Saturday. The South Western Army looks after the defence of the borders of southern Punjab and northern Rajasthan and is based in Jaipur.
Lt. General Mathson was commissioned into the Garhwal Rifles in June 1980.
Education
A graduate from the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, he had attended the senior command course at the Army War College, Mhow, and defence management course at Secunderabad.
He had served two tenures on the Siachen Glacier. He had commanded the Trivandrum Brigade.
