Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam leader Kolathur Mani, who was proceeding to Madurai from Mettur in Salem, was stopped at Pallapatti pass on National Highway 7 and taken to Ammaiyanaickanur police station on Tuesday.
The police told Mr. Mani that permission to enter Madurai district was denied to him. He was on the way to Madurai to take part in an indefinite fast launched by a group of lawyers, demanding making of Tamil as an official language in the Madras High Court.
