Police deny permission for today’s Congress meeting

High-voltage tension is prevailing in Sircilla textile town of Rajanna-Sircilla district over the conduct of public meeting that Congress leaders planned for Monday in protest against the alleged police torture of dalits and other villagers of Nerella, Jillela and other villages on the charge of setting fire to sand-laden lorries.

Though the district administration had outright refused permission for the conduct of any meeting by Congress leaders on Monday, stating that there would be law and order problem following provocation of people, party leaders said they would definitely conduct the meeting and had approached the High Court, seeking permission.

HC permission

Criticising the State government for denying permission for conduct of the public meeting and “suppressing the democratic rights of people”, integrated Karimnagar DCC president K Mruthyunjayam said “we are waiting for the High Court permission on Monday.”

Talking to newsmen in the town on Sunday, the DCC president alleged that ‘police raj’ was running in Telangana and people would teach a fitting lesson to the TRS for suppressing the democratic rights and voice of the downtrodden community.

Meanwhile, the Rajanna-Sircilla district police invoked Section 30 of Police Act in Sircilla textile town and it would be in force from Sunday to August 28. The police said there should not be any meetings, rallies and processions without police permission. They also instructed the tent houses and public address system owners not to rent their equipment for the public meeting on Monday.

Checkposts

The district police have taken up the issue seriously and are leaving no stone unturned to foil the meeting. They were opening check-posts on all the roads leading towards Sircilla town from Karimnagar, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Siddipet, Vemulawada, Kamareddy etc and planning to detain Congress leaders.
