A team deputed at Chirumarri and medical camp organised to treat patients

The surge in fever cases at Chirumarri village in Mudigonda mandal adjoining Bonakal mandal, which had witnessed widespread outbreak of dengue fever last year, has prompted the District Medical and Health Department officials to lay special focus on the village.

Chirumarri witnessed a spurt in the number of fever cases and other seasonal diseases in the last few days. According to sources, five fever patients from the village have tested positive for dengue in the past week.

The district authorities have deputed a medical team to the village and organised a free medical camp to treat the ailing villagers on Saturday.

Six confirmed cases

A total of six confirmed cases of dengue have been reported from Gopalapuram, Ramakrishnapuram and Peddalacha tanda in Kamepalli mandal ever since the onset of monsoon last month. In all, 140 cases of mosquito-borne diseases, mainly dengue, have been reported in the district so far this year.

Of these, more than 80 confirmed cases of dengue have been reported from Maturipeta and Buchireddypalem in Madhira mandal.

Inappropriate water storage in cement tanks and old metal drums on the premises of the houses, besides poor sanitation, were found to be the main reasons for the spurt in dengue cases in some of the villages in Kamepalli and Madhira mandals, sources said.

The condition of the patients, those suffering from various seasonal ailments, including fevers, in Chirumarri, has improved following the prompt medical care rendered by special medical teams in the village, said District Malaria Officer A. Rambabu. The DM&HO Kondal Rao visited the village and monitored the provision of medical services to the needy. A vigorous campaign has been launched at Chirumarri with a thrust on sanitation to eradicate mosquitoes by actively involving the local youth, he said.
