Leader denies charge, calls complaint politically motivated

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amarjit Singh Sandoa from Ropar has been booked for allegedly assaulting his former landlady.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that Mr. Sandoa had physically pushed her, hurled abuses and threatened her of dire consequences when she had gone to his house on Thursday evening for the settlement of the outstanding rent. The woman said she had rented her house to Mr. Sandoa at Zail Singh Nagar in Ropar last November. Mr. Sandoa vacated the house in April, but allegedly did not pay the rent for that month and utility dues.

Cases registered

The police on Saturday registered a case under various Sections 354 (assault to women with intent to outrage her modesty), 294 (obscene act in public), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of woman) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.

Senior Superintendent of Police Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu said the matter was under investigation and the police would take necessary action after the probe.

Mr. Sandoa, meanwhile, denied the allegations, saying it was a politically motivated complaint.
