Accused took help of father, driver to bury body

The Selaiyur police arrested three persons in connection with the murder of a woman, who reportedly went missing from her relative’s house in May this year.

Police said, T. Arun, 33, his father Thangamani, 54, of Ariyalur district and a cab driver Manikandan, 25, were taken into custody. The victim, Kanakavalli, 27, was married to Arun and the couple used to quarrel frequently. Kanakavalli had left Arun and was staying with her relative in Selaiyur.

Arun had convinced her to live with him again and on May 23, they were returning home to Udayarpalayam in Ariyalur, in a hired car. The couple picked up a quarrel on the way and Arun allegedly strangled her to death using her saree. Then, with the help of the cab driver and his father, he buried Kanakavalli’s body in a cashew grove in Kollaikadu village in Kancheepuram district.

Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother, the Selaiyur police questioned Arun about the whereabouts of his wife. He told them that she had run away after a fight. However, after checking the call records on his mobile phone, the police cornered and he confessed to the crime.

All the three were produced before a magistrate in Tambaram and sent to Puzhal prison.
