LDF to campaign for Vincent’s resignation

CPI(M) district unit secretary Anavoor Nagappan has said that Kovalam MLA M. Vincent, currently under remand on charges of rape, has lost all right to continue in that position. He said here on Friday that the district committee of the Left Democratic Front would launch a campaign calling for his ouster.

“The Congress has been trying hard to defend him by accusing the CPI(M) of hatching a conspiracy against him. This is just an attempt to save him from resignation. The woman, who has levelled the accusation against the MLA, did not contact any other political party when she faced this issue. She had confided in the priest of a local church. She is just a common woman. It is a stretch of imagination to accuse that she hatched such an elaborate conspiracy. The whole issue came out in the public domain when she was admitted to the hospital and her husband filed a police complaint,” said Mr. Nagappan.

He said the Congress activists had made life difficult for the woman after the incident came to light. “It is unfair that a victim has to face such attacks and goondaism. The Congress activists there were protesting with a demand for the release of someone who was remanded by the court. This is not behaviour suited for the Congress party. No Congress leader has yet condemned the attack on the victim,” he said.
