Govt. blames Vice Chancellor for poor implementation of online checking system

Mumbai: Minister of State for Higher Education Ravindra Waikar said on Friday that University of Mumbai Vice Chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh will be probed for the delay in declaring results to the final year examinations. Mr. Deshmukh has been under fire for not properly implementing the system for online checking of answer scripts, and the tendering process for the same.

Mr. Waikar said of the total 17.36 lakh answer scripts, 4.07 lakh are yet to be checked. He said when the private firm had made a presentation on the online checking system to the MU managing committee, the latter had sought to know if the system could be put in place on such short notice. “The VC assured the committee and took complete responsibility for implementing the system, and tenders were duly issued on May 2.”

Education Minister Vinod Tawde said while the inquiry committee has its work set out, the government is faced with the responsibility of announcing the final year results of students.

BJP MLA Ashish Shelar sought to know if the government is putting in place a Standard Operating Procedure to avoid similar problems next year. Party MLA Amit Satam, said, “The delay in results has harmed the prospects of students. Did the VC consult teachers and colleges before sanctioning the project?”
