Dilruwan Perera helped Sri Lanka stretch its first innings. The off-spinner, who excelled with the bat and remained unbeaten on 92, said the Galle pitch in the first Test isn’t the usual surface associated with the venue.
“There isn’t too much turn. This is not the typical Galle pitch. Even on Saturday, I don’t think we can look forward to that much of a turn. However, this pitch is very slow. When the ball is new, it was turning a bit. When the ball gets old, it’s easy to score runs,” Perera told the media on Friday.
Perera reiterated that he worked hard on his batting. “Everyday, I try to improve my batting because team needs runs from me when I bat at number seven or eight. It’s disappointing to miss a century and this is a Test century. I was trying to get closer to the score but then I didn’t have the opportunity.”
About the aggressive way he batted, Perera explained: “I was batting according to the situation. I had just two wickets around me. So I was trying to get runs in every possible ball but I didn’t want to lose my wicket.”
Asked about chasing a massive target in the fourth innings, Perera replied: “We will have to look at what target we are going to get and then take a decision. We shouldn’t think of a target but bat the way we can bat.”
