The Forester of Sivagiri Range in the district was murdered by an armed gang on Friday evening.
Police said an armed gang attacked Forester T. Murugesan (33) from Melagaram near Courtallam, in his office around 3.30 p.m. on Friday. He sustained multiple cut injuries in the attack and died on the spot.
During investigation, the police found that Murugesan had married a woman in 2014, and the woman allegedly committed suicide three months ago following frequent domestic quarrels. An enquiry subsequently conducted by the Revenue Divisional Officer, Tirunelveli, reportedly concluded that it was a case of suicide.
As Murugesan was murdered against this backdrop, it is suspected that his wife’s relatives might have murdered him.
Sivagiri police have registered a case.
