Direction comes ahead of his lie test

A city court on Wednesday directed the Delhi Police to provide round-the-clock security to alleged arms dealer Abhishek Verma and his family members till the conclusion of polygraph test on him in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case involving senior Congress leader Jagdish tytler.

He is a prosecution witness in the case. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shivali Sharma passed the order after Verma told her that he was ready to undergo the lie-detector test if round-the-clock security was provided to him and his family members.

List of hospitals

Asking the CBI to submit a list of hospitals in the Capital where the test can be conducted, the court listed the matter for further hearing on August 1. The court had earlier this month asked the CBI about its stand on Verma’s demand.

The CBI had sought the court’s permission to put Verma through the lie-detection test, stating that it was needed for the purpose of further investigation. Verma had said in a statement recorded by the CBI that Mr. Tytler paid about ₹1 crore to Surinder Singh Granthi, a prosecution witness in the case, and arranged for a visa for $50,000 to send his son, Narinder Singh, another witness in the case, to Canada in return for a statement in his favour.

Verma’s statement is based on what Mr. Tytler had allegedly told him during a meeting in 2008.
