Mumbai: State Education Minister Vinod Tawde on Wednesday said that the government will investigate the delay in declaration of results by the Mumbai University (MU).

Speaking during a debate in the State Legilsative Council, the minister said, “It is obvious that many students have been affected, and we will find out the reasons for the delay.”

The Shiv Sena has been putting pressure on the government, demanding the resignation of MU Vice-Chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh over the delay. Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray had even alleged a scam in the online assessment system, and demanded a resignation of the VC and Mr. Tawde.

The debate in the Council was initiated by Sena MLCs Anil Parab and Neelam Gorhe, who blamed the VC for a ‘mess’ in the university. Mr. Tawde said the MLCs’ views would be conveyed to the Governor. “The right person to take action is the Governor,” he said.

Mr. Tawde informed the House that 5.29 lakh answer papers are yet to be checked. “As of now, about 70% of the total papers have been checked, and the remaining 30% will be completed by the July 31 deadline set by the Governor. The government is hiring more professors to complete the task,” he said.

On Gorhe’s demand to waive the ₹600 fee charged for re-assessment of paper, he said a decision has not been taken in the matter.
