The Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday ordered an NIA probe into the issue of recovery of explosives in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly that took place earlier this month. On July 12, 150 gm of a powdery substance was found under the seat of Samajwadi Party MLA Manoj Singh in the Assembly. The explosive substance was discovered to be PETN, a plastic explosive.

The ministry has decided to hand over the probe into the recovery of explosives to the National Investigation Agency, the official said. About 150 grams of PETN (Pentaerythritol tetranitrate) explosive was found wrapped in a paper close to the seat of the Leader of the Opposition, Ram Govind Choudhary, in the assembly on July 12.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had described it as a “dangerous terror conspiracy” and recommended a probe into the incident by the NIA.
