Saluting the courage and valour of the martyrs on Kargil Vijay Diwas, Sonia Gandhi said: "The Nation is extremely proud of the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifices.
"As we remember our martyrs, the sacrifices of their family members cannot be overlooked," she said in a statement.
She said that entire Nation recognises the innumerable challenges and pain of the family members, who dedicated their lives while safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of India.
Rahul Gandhi said on Twitter: "They laid down their lives, so we may live with our heads held high. On Kargil Vijay Diwas we salute the courage and sacrifice of our bravehearts."
